Tom Cruise chooses Thanksgiving with Suri over Scientology bookathon (Video)
On Thanksgiving Tom Cruise spent time with his Suri instead of participating in a major Scientology Thanksgiving kickoff to Begin-A-Boom Bookathon. The San Jose Mercury News reported on the father and daughter reunion Nov. 22, 2012. While tabloids have been making a fuss about Cruise not seeing Suri for three months, he did not abandon her. As you read here earlier, he sued the tabloid that claimed he had. But the curious news is that while devoting the holiday to Suri, we didn’t hear anything about his involvement with Scientology’s bookathon.
The bookathon event was revealed by formerVillage Voice editor Tom Ortega this week. This makes us wonder if Cruise is taking advice reported in the Huff Post in October to back away from the cultish group.
As Tom Hicks told us:
For Cruise, the long-awaited reunion was especially sweet. Based in London since mid-August, where he is deep in pre-production for the sci-fi action film "All You Need Is Kill," the actor has been struggling to cope with the distance between them since Holmes filed for divorce in June and was awarded primary custody of the couple's only child.Although Cruise has been "heartbroken" by the situation, as his friend Christopher McQuarrie recently told People.com, he and Suri have been speaking by phone daily. And sources on both sides have said that both Cruise and Holmes are continuing to try to work things out amicably. "They are all about co-parenting," a Holmes pal said in September. A secret tape bookathon story
Tony Ortega, former Village Voice editor has done years of serious investigative reporting on Scientology since 1995. He’s currently working on a book about the church.
Breaking news! One of our tipsters forwarded to us an internal Scientology video urging church members to take part in a big push to sell copies of Dianeticsaround the world! We’ve taken some stills from the video to give you some idea of just how persuasive it is. It’s so infectious; we suspect it may be difficult in the coming days to go anywhere without running into pushy Scientologists demanding that we buy a copy of L. Ron Hubbard’s masterpiece! Thanksgiving? Pshaw! The Scientology Begin-A-Boom Bookathon begins TODAY.
Choosing between Cruise and Scientology
The Huffington Post was among the publications that began talking about the problems that Tom Cruise may encounter when promoting his new film. They noted in October:
"I have never known anybody who loved being a movie star more," the source told THR. "I would tell him to choose: You either have to be at the top of Scientology because that's where your passion lies, or you have to be a movie star. The two are not compatible. … You can't manage a movie career and a freak show." Tom Cruise Scientology Backlash
The Cruise lawsuit
With regard to the lawsuit against Life & Style Weekly, even though the headline and the tearful cover photo did not fit the actual story what Cruise did was put tabloids and tabloid writers on notice. Cruise essentially said: "I won't stand for lies." Credible writers applauded him.
Sergeant Cruise is in town! Tom dons a military uniform as he touches down in Trafalgar Square in an RAF helicopter

It's not every day London's Trafalgar Square is completely shut down for the filming of a big budget Hollywood movie.
But then again, it's not every day that Tom Cruise is in town.
The 50-year-old actor certainly made sure to make his presence known as he cordoned off the famous location to shoot scenes for his new movie, All You Need Is Kill, in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Dapper dude: Tom Cruise looked every inch the cool customer as he shot scenes for his new movie, All You Need Is Kill, in London on Sunday morning
Dramatic: Tom ensured he touched down with a bang as he shot scenes in an RAF helicopter, which was hovering precariously close to Nelson's Column
Arriving on location in an RAF helicopter, the Hollywood star touched down with a bang as the chopper carefully negotiated its way onto the central London set.
But it certainly wasn't for the faint-hearted, with the helicopter having to narrowly dodge a number of landmarks, including Nelson's Column.
And as he landed slap bang in the middle of Trafalgar Square, Tom treated onlookers to another joy as he stepped out looking utterly dapper in a hunky military uniform.
The star was groomed to perfection as he marched through the streets in his tailored khaki ensemble, which was accessorised with a smart hat and aviator-style sunglasses.
Making his mark: Tom and his team had taken over London's Trafalgar Square for the shoot
Action hero: The 50-year-old actor seemed to be accustomed to his role as a crime-fighting action hero
In charge: Tom seemed to be in command as he walked around the set chatting to a co-star

Tom was joined on set by a whole host of extras, who seemed to be wearing protective helmets and khaki ponchos over their camouflage gear.
The A-list actor seemed on fine form as he got to work, looking cool, calm and collected as he shot a number of action scenes.
Since arriving in the British capital earlier this month, Tom had kept a relatively low profile until Saturday.

The star made his presence well and truly known as he cordoned off Trafalgar Square once again to film scenes for the movie in the miserable weather.
Giving tourists a treat, the 50-year-old and the crew had shipped in a number of large tanks, suggesting that they were filing an action scene.
Tom wore a pair of grey jeans, a white shirt and black jumper over the top as he got to work, adding a black bomber jacket over the top as he walked around the set.
Iconic: All You Need Is Kill is being shot in one of London's most famous locations
Peek-a-boo: Tom could be seen sat in the helicopter patiently as it prepared to land in Trafalgar Square
Unexpected sight: The film's stars looked somewhat out of place on the streets of central London
While passers by stopped to watch the dramatic scene unfold, London policemen were on hand to keep anyone off of the set.
The film, which also stars Brit actress Emily Blunt and Bill Paxton, follows the story of of a soldier who is fighting a war against aliens, and has become trapped in a time loop.
Based on the Japanese novel of the same name, the movie is scheduled for release in March 2014.
Seemingly comfortable in his tried and tested role as action hero, Tom commanded the scene, walking round the set with authority.

Since the breakdown of his marriage to Katie Holmes earlier in the year, Tom has had very little time to spend with their daughter, Suri.
But after not seeing her for three months, the star had her jetted to London to spend Thanksgiving Day alongside her on Thursday.
