This Week's Bad Photoshopping Lesson Comes From Scientology
from the the-thetans-did-it dept
The universe has a sense of humor. I'm convinced of it. See, as someone who believes that humor is a wonderful way to deal with otherwise disheartening topics, I'm amazed at how often the world around me will give me something to laugh at when I'm feeling blue. Take the world's current climate on the topic of religion, for instance. It'd be very easy to get down in the dumps over the Westboro Baptist Church, religious fundementalists engaging in acts of terror, and the never-ending saga known as the Middle East "peace" process. None of those things are laughing matters. But then, reading the forlorn expression on my face, the universe sends me another story from the Church of Scientology.
The Tom-Cruise-iest religion on the planet took a break from their attempt to destroy free speech to celebrate the grand-mega opening of their new ironically named Ideal Organization in Portland by producing the worst photoshopped picture this side of the Iranian military.
The Tom-Cruise-iest religion on the planet took a break from their attempt to destroy free speech to celebrate the grand-mega opening of their new ironically named Ideal Organization in Portland by producing the worst photoshopped picture this side of the Iranian military.
The crowd was around 450-750 people. But the church claims it was more like 2,500, and it Photoshopped in the proof. Except the proof is about as convincing as your thetan's origin story. In reality, there were no people in the right-hand side of the photo. There was actually a line of rented trees set up to block the view of people not so friendly to Scientology (see the photo below), as well as police blocking off a four-block radius for the event. And it's not just that the picture was doctored, it's that it was done quite poorly. They added people right on top of the trees in the altered section.Tony Ortega has the two photos that demonstrate this. First was the "official" photo from the Church which is clearly photoshopped.
So a word of friendly advice to my Scientologist friends: brainwashed graphic designers are a better asset than brainwashed Tom Cruises. For ever and ever. Amen.
Will Smith and son Jaden take court action... but it's only at basketball match as they put emancipation rumours to rest

It doesn’t look like he’s leaving his famous father’s side anytime soon.
After Earth co-stars Will Smith, 44, and his teenage son Jaden Smith, 14, bonded as the Miami Heat defeated the Chicago Bulls in Game 5 of their series in Miami.
The pair acted and looked more like best friends than father and son during the game on Wednesday night as they took in the action while talking and laughing with one another throughout.
Father-son time: Will Smith and Jaden watched the Miami Heat defeat the Chicago Bulls in Miami on Wednesday night at the NBA Eastern Conference semi finals
Hanging tight: Will casually draped an arm around his son as the pair took in the action on the court
At one point loving dad Will even tenderly put his arm around his son’s shoulder further pouring cold water over recent stories that the star would accept his son being legally emancipated from his parents.
The I Am Legend star and his talented teenager set the record straight on The Ellen De Generes Show on Wednesday.
In a joint interview the Karate Kid star said: 'See, here’s the thing that you need to understand: I’m not going anywhere.
'The thing that people don’t get is everything at this house id free! So I can get anything and everything at his house, so I’m going to be there 20, 30 more years.'
Will insisted to Ellen that he was only joking about his son’s emancipation during a recent interview in Tokyo and that his comments had been taken out of context.
Amused: Jaden was spotted giggling at one point as his proud father watched on
Jaden, who was dressed all in black at the basketball game, looked totally relaxed sitting beside his superstar dad who sported a Philadelphia Sixers hat in support of his hometown team.
The two basketball fans watched-on as Dwayne Wade’s Miami Heat defeated the Chicago Bulls 94-91 at the AmericanAirlines Arena progressing to the Eastern Conference Finals for the third consecutive season with their 4-1 series victory.
Both Will and Jaden will be seen on the big-screen when the M. Night Shyamalan-directed After Earth opens across America on May 31.
The blockbuster tells the story about a young astronaut (Jaden) who crash lands on a post-apocalyptic Earth with his father (Will).
The father and son team will battle it out at the box office that weekend with magician heist thriller Now You See Me and horror thriller The Purge.
