at one time there was actually a Scientology dating site.... wonder why that didn't last long?
Scientology takes another hit: Marty Rathbun reveals details in affidavit
Scientology under fire (The Daily Mail)
September 7, 2013
Leader of the controversial Church ofScientology, David Miscavige responded to a lawsuit filed by his wife’s former employee, Monique Rathbun. The lawsuit alleges the church leader used private investigators, intimidation tactics and even lied under oath and court documents that have been revealed that show the embattled leader would do anything in order to control not only the church it’s members as well.
Former Scientologist, Marty Rathbun, husband of Monique Rathbun issued an affidavit for the lawsuit his wife filed. The lawsuit also alleges that Miscavige in addition to other people allegedly took part in a “detailed campaign of surveillance and harassment” against both of the Rathbuns.
Miscavige’s response to the lawsuit claimed that he had never conducted any business in Texas and had no information that would reveal anyone else attached to the church had either.
Marty Rathbun’s affidavit revealed his version surroundings the things Miscavige has said and done. When he was still a member of the Church of Scientology, Marty Rathbun was Tom Cruise’s personal auditor.
Marty Rathbun’s affidavit stated, “I [Marty Rathbun] served with Mr. Miscavige in Scientology’s Sea Organization for 27 years. From 1982 to 2004, I answered directly to Mr. Miscavige. I was Mr. Miscavige’s second in command.”
“In the history of Scientology, no other Church executive worked with Mr. Miscavige more closely, for a longer period of time, than I did.” Rathbun went on to say that David Miscavige has “unquestioned control of all Scientology as its Sea Org Captain” since founder L. Ron Hubbard’s death in 1986.
According to Rathbun, one of the last directives Hubbard issued to Miscavige was that he needed to create “an intelligence, RP and legal network that would protect Scientology’s spying and harassment operations by using buffer corporations and new levels of security.”
Hubbard also demanded that Miscavige “by any means necessary, end the multitude of criminal and civil threats pending against Hubbard and Scientology. And create a new corporate structure that would allow the Sea Org to operate as it always had, but with legal buffers in place that would prevent future ‘enemies’ from getting to Hubbard and other top Sea Org officers.”
Rathbun contends that, Miscavige succeeded “beyond anyone’s imagination.” He went on to say that “Under Hubbard’s and Miscavige’s close supervision, I effectively continued to silence potential critics and defectors without exposing Hubbard, Miscavige or the Scientology organizations to legal liability.”
Rathbun isn’t the first former Scientologist to accuse the Church of Scientology and David Miscavige of harassment. However, both Miscavige and the church deny any involvement in that type of behavior.
Rathbun addressed what he called Miscavige’s “lies” by saying that David Miscavige “ran the Scientology network as tightly as a naval captain to the world at large, including through our own false declarations that Miscavige’s role was the same as that of any corporate board chairman.”
“I witnessed Miscavige’s control enforced without question from anyone for the next 17 years. By the mid-1990s, Miscavige’s every utterance was ruthlessly enforced thought all Scientology corporations.”
“He regularly strode through Church of Scientology International’s California headquarters while barking verbal orders to anyone and everyone, from the janitors to managers responsible for Scientology management around the world.”
Rathbun explained how employees followed Miscavige around with tape recorders that were later transcribed because they wanted to make sure there were no misunderstandings as to what Miscavige wanted. Those transcriptions later became memos and electronic alerts that were used to ensure Miscavige’s commands were carried out exactly.
Those who did not comply with Miscavige’s orders were punished by the church. Rathbun explained that “Every evening I would receive an intelligence briefing in writing, summarizing reports from private investigators and Scientologists serving as undercover spies watching and interacting with Scientology critics.”
Rathbun claims he has 22 years of his morning briefings for Miscavige. Those briefings included, “media stories, investigations, legal cases, security breaches and potential security situations.”
Claiming that David Miscavige is trying to control the lawsuit as well, Rathbun stated that Miscavige’s statements that he doesn’t know the two private investigators also named as defendants is an outright lie.
Rathbun wrote in the court papers that Miscavige not only knows the private investigators but has actively used them both in Texas since the 1990s. He said they were used specifically to investigate the family of Lisa McPherson who was the Scientologist who died while under the care of the church.
Miscavige told the court, “I have never availed myself to the privilege of conducting activities within the State of Texas…have not made any purposeful contacts with the State of Texas…and have not otherwise availed myself of the benefits and protection of Texas law.”
Marty Rathbun insists that even though David Miscavige may have been on the base in California, he frequently issued orders of surveillance campaigns in Texas as well as hired attorneys and private investigators there as well.
