THE REAL STORY ABOUT BRAD PITT AND SCIENTOLOGY
Dakota Johnson's Scientologist boyfriend Jordan Masterson 'encourages her to join his church to help her cope with Fifty Shades Of Grey fame'
|
She has just scooped the role of a lifetime after being cast in Fifty Shades of Grey.
But after film bosses revealed that Dakota Johnson would be taking on the role of Anastasia Steele in the film, it has been reported that the casting has put a strain on her relationship with her Scientologist boyfriend Jordan Masterson.
Jordan, 27, is reportedly 'uncomfortable' with all the S&M sex scenes included in the adaptation of EL James' book, and feels a move to his religion would be helpful for Dakota to cope with her sudden rise to stardom.
Set to join the club? It has been reported that Dakota Johnson's boyfriend Jordan Masterson thinks Scientology will help her deal with her upcoming sex scene laden role in Fifty Shades Of Grey
Cute couple: Dakota Johnson and boyfriend Jordan Masterson
A source told Grazia Magazine: 'Jordan feels taking on such a huge role and the fame that goes with it will mean she needs some help - and that's where Scientology could step into help her.'
Scientology Church founder L Ron Hubbard wrote that pain and sex are both 'invented tools of degradation' by 'destructive creatures' with the intention 'to shrink people and cut their alertness, knowingness, power and reach'.
He also created a 'Know to Sex' scale, which focuses on people's attitudes towards sex.
Dakota's long-term romance with Jordan has been a stabilising factor in her life after it was reported that she went to rehab at the age of 17.
In September 2007, it was widely reported that she completed a 30-day inpatient rehab program at the Visions Teen Treatment Center in Malibu for drug and alcohol addiction. She also participated in an outpatient program in Brentwood.
Last October, Dakota admitted: ‘I have a boyfriend that I’ve been with for a while. I’ve only been in long-term relationships. I’ve never really dated myself.'
The couple have built up a close circle of pals in Hollywood and Dakota is firm friends with Jordan’s sister Alanna Masterson, who celebrated the news that the slender blonde had won the role of Anastasia by tweeting last week: ‘Everyone is so proud of you Dakota’.
Celebrating: Alanna Masterson posted a picture of the Masterson clan, including Jordan (left) and brother Christopher (right) hugging Dakota after her movie role win. She tweeted: 'Everyone is so proud of you Dakota. Well, except for Chris'
Close: Dakota Johnson is close friends with Alanna Masterson, the sister of her boyfriend Jordan Masterson
Alanna also posted a picture of the couple hard at work on a crossword puzzle last month, with the message: ‘My two favourite people.’
Jordan, and Alanna, 25, have been Scientologists since childhood. However, their father Joe Reachie, a Beirut-born former Australian rugby league player recently told MailOnline how he had not seen them for nine years after being ex-communicated by the mysterious church.
Now working in finance, Joe stressed: 'No religion has the right to ruin you and split up your family.'
Major movie role: Fifty Shades of Grey is Dakota's biggest role to date, she previously starred alongside Justin Timberlake in The Social Network
Jordan is also an actor and is best known for his role as Mark in the 2005 film The 40-Year-Old Virgin and his recurring role as Dumptruck in ABC Family comedy-drama series Greek. He's the half-brother to actors Danny and Chris Masterson.
Producers were forced to defend their casting choices after announcing Dakota as Anastasia and Charlie Hunnam as Christian Grey.
A huge backlash inspired producer Dana Brunetti to explain the casting process and what informed the decision to pick both actors.
'There is a lot that goes into casting that isn’t just looks. Talent, availability, their desire to do it, chemistry with other actor, etc,' he said.
Future star: Charlie Hunnam takes his Harley-Davidson for a spin after wrapping up another work day on the set of 'Sons of Anarchy.'
Charlie has openly spoken about his favour of Dakota being casted as Anastasia, saying: [Author EL James and I] both suggested I do a reading with Dakota, who was her favourite, and soon as I started reading with her, I knew that I was wanted to do it.'
He also added 'There's a tangible chemistry between us'.
Fifty Shades of Grey will be Dakota's highest-profile movie role to date. She appeared in The Social Network - bedding Justin Timberlake on screen and was last seen on TV on axed Fox sitcom Ben & Kate.
MailOnline has contacted Dakota's representatives for a comment on her rumoured bid to join Scientology.

Scientology and the Smiths: Is Will Smith’s family in the Church of Scientology?
It has been long speculated that Will Smith and his wife Jada Pinkett Smith adhere, at least in part, to the teachings of the Church of Scientology. But, unlike outspoken Scientologists Tom Cruise and John Travolta, Will has never been vocal about his spiritual beliefs. The closest he’s ever really come to admitting his religious leaning was in 2006 when he told World Entertainment News Network that he was raised in the Baptist church, but doesn’t “necessarily believe in organized religion” any more.
Jada has been similarly vague about what she does believe — although she’s been more direct about what she doesn’t believe.
“Well, I’m not a Scientologist. People make these assumptions, but my religion is love,” she said in 2011.
With such denials of association with the Church of Scientology, why are the Smiths continually dogged by rumors? The short answer: Actions speak louder than words.
In 2008, Will and Jade opened the privately funded New Village Leadership Academy (NVLA) to teach children under the principles of “Study Technology,” which was created by Ron L. Hubbard… Who also founded the Church of Scientology.
“I definitely want to make it very clear to everybody that the educational institutionthat we have, the school that Will and I have, is not a Scientology school,” Jada told NPR in 2009. “It is not a desire of ours to educate children with Scientology, that is not what Will and I want to do. And our school is not, and I repeat, not a Scientology school.”
In addition to the school’s curriculum, there was also controversy about just who was associated with the school. According to Truth About Scientology, multiple instructors at NVLA completed Scientology courses. Former artistic director Sisu Raiken even hosted a page on the Church of Scientology’s website.
“I have studied many courses in Scientology over the past 16 years, done the Purification Rundown to rid my body of toxins and drugs, and also been involved in many of the social outreach programs of Scientology, mainly getting Mr. Hubbard’s literacy program known and put into use,” her website said, ABC News reported in 2009.
Suri Cruise, who was arguable the most prominent Scientologist child before her parents’ divorce, attended the school alongside Jaden and Willow Smith. (And there’s no doubt her parents chipped in with more than the standard tuition.) But, after Suri left, the school struggled to stay afloat. According to sources, this was because NVLA had difficulty earning outside funding because of Scientology backlash.
The Smiths kept NVLA going for a few years with $2 million of their own annually, but pulled the plug and began homeschooling their children earlier this year, which might have been the inspiration for Jaden Smith’s much-maligned tweet from this past weekend, “If Everybody In The World Dropped Out Of School We Would Have A Much More Intelligent Society.”
Practically concurrent with the school’s closing, the Smiths were swept into another Scientology-related controversy. This time, the rumors were based on the messages in Will and Jaden’s 2013 adventure movie, After Earth. Many critics said the film (which was a flop), was little more than thinly veiled Scientology propaganda.
Marc Headley, a former Scientologist and author of Blown For Good: Behind the Iron Curtain of Scientology, agreed with that conclusion. After watching the film with a critic’s eye, Marc wrote for The Hollywood Reporter that there were multiple references and allusions to Scientology teachings, particularly those emphasized by Hubbard in Scientology’s cornerstone text, Dianetics.
If this evidence was presented before a jury tasked with determining whether the Smiths are Scientologists, those jurors would likely be unable to say — without a doubt — that they are. Nonetheless, it is pretty clear that the Smith do have a strong association with the religion… And, as Jaden and Willow are becoming more vocal about their own views, it’s likely we’ll learn more about their Scientology-influenced (or not) beliefs in the coming years.
