Scientology Buildings Crumbling in Montreal, Toronto, Vancouver
On August 22, 2011, illegal and dangerous outside wiring on the Vancouver building posed a danger to pedestrians, and immediate steps were taken to initiate a building inspection. Scientology was forced to bring up to code exterior wiring that was joined with mere masking tape. Video, photos and the formal complaint were posted at:
Here is an excerpt from the complaint:
“The aforementioned make-shift wiring poses a real danger to the public and I request the Electrical Inspections and Investigations Department perform an inspection of this commercial building. I suggest that with the blatant existence of the outside wiring, perhaps the entire subject property be inspected by your Department and a complete Fire Safety Inspection would be prudent.”
“The subject wiring, is basically an extension cord, spliced and taped at join, without a Junction Box; then is stretched up and over sharp metal, which then is fed to the outside Scientology sign lights over Hastings Street and a side Street. The potential for an electrical short is high and dangerous to the public passing by, and to those who enter the commercial building.”
The dangerous wiring was replaced within a few days in 2011, but now the rundown building poses even more dangers for pedestrians because of loosened wall stones that risk falling off, as seen near the end of a recent video:
With church membership dwindling fast, the diehards are being pressured to donate millions for repairs and renovations. Those who complain or natter are declared Suppressive Persons and are cast out and disconnected from family members.
Meanwhile, the self-appointed Scientology dictator, David Miscavige, lives in luxury with a huge mansion at Scientology headquarters, a fleet of personal cars and motorcycles, and a personal chef. A tailor makes all his suits at $5,000 apiece, with $500 Egyptian cotton shirts.
Membership is so low at many of the new, fancy “Ideal org” churches around the globe that only a handful of staff members are usually sitting around in boredom, stressed out about the next Thursday 2:00 p.m. deadline when staff production stats must be sent to the mother church.
Sources from across Canada say the church buildings are literally crumbling to the ground. Our harsh winters blow moisture onto the buildings and, when it freezes, the water expands and breaks loose fascia rock and bricks onto the sidewalk below.
Scientology must take heed concerning pedestrians walking near their dilapidated buildings, and building inspectors must seek to avoid incidents such as those that have caused injuries to innocent citizens:
Pedestrian Critically Injured by Falling Brick
MONTREAL – “One man was seriously hurt when a cascade of bricks fell on his head while he was walking on Bleury St. south of Sherbrooke St. on Tuesday night.”
“There have been several cases of people injured or killed by crumbling facades and building collapses in Montreal in the past few years.”
On Wednesday, December 21, 2011, the Montreal Gazette reported “One northbound lane of St. Laurent Blvd. above Sherbrooke St. below Prince Arthur St. remained shut to vehicle traffic at noon Wednesday, after several bricks fell overnight – apparently from the wall of the 10-storey Balfour Building on the southeast corner of Prince Arthur and the Main.”
Scientology is notorious for buying old buildings needing renovations and for harassing members to provide the millions needed to begin construction. However, Scientology is responsible and liable for any harm caused to pedestrians walking near these dangerous walls of disrepair.
For a church that calls itself “the most ethical group on the planet”, it has a long way to go to learn about the criminal and civil laws that it seems to think it is above.
Perhaps L. Ron Hubbard’s writings best explain Scientology’s thinking, as in the Hubbard Communications Office Policy Letter dated 4 January 1966:
"Somebody someday will say ‘this is illegal.’ By then be sure the orgs [Scientology organizations] say what is legal or not."
David Edgar Love
