Tom Cruise is a man who knows a thing or two about ridiculous notions from science fiction influencing real life organisations.
We are of course talking about Minority Report, the 2002 science fiction movie which introduced the idea of gesture-based computing to the mainstream.'
On a press trip for his new post alien apocalypse movie 'Oblivion', he said that the influence of the earlier film's ideas ran deep. In fact - he claimed - it basically made the iPad possible. He said:
"It was interesting with Minority Report because we came up with that 'scrubbing' the image [gesture], and that's how Apple did the iPad. That's how that came up, which is very cool," he said.
Hmm, we're not quite sure Steve Jobs was that easily influenced - though to Cruise's credit he was talking in generalities, not taking specific credit.
And we can't hold the assertion against him - he also called for the invention of bubble ships, which are used in the new film and which are awesome obviously.
"Science fiction writing has always inspired future things," he said. "I would like it if they could build a bubble ship like that so that we could all fly around in that bubble ship, that would be very cool."

Tom Cruise's Precious Ass Cheeks Must Stay Warm At All Times

Thanks to Helen for sending in this picture of the delicate and fragile Scientology blossom Tommy Girl keeping his thetans warm and toasty at the premiere of Oblivion in Dublin on Wednesday.
While the nipples of Tommy's fans turned into chest icicles from standing in the cold, he kept warm by making one of his mortal slaves follow him around with a portable heater. That dude's "I thought that when I slipped this important badge around my neck I would be doing important work" face says it all. But you know, dude is doing the most important job. If Tommy freezes his ass off, then he won't be be the bossy bottom star of every Scientology bathhouse orgy and that'll make him sad. Or maybe that's not a portable heater after all. Maybe it's some sort of Scientology machine that blocks the glibness in the air from touching his body. That's probably it.
Here's more of Tommy at the Dublin premiere of Oblivion and also some pictures of him with his co-star Olga Kurylenko at the London premiere. This might be the exact moment when Olga realized that Tommy is batshit insane (she's a little tardy to the party) or maybe she spotted this beautiful lip-liner worshiper behind him.

First look: Kelly Preston wears bridesmaid dress to a funeral in new pilot... and gets a visit from John Travolta and baby Ben

It is normally Kelly Preston visiting her blockbuster actor husband John Travolta on set, but on Wednesday the tables were turned.
It had been a long time between acting roles for Kelly, but on the busy mother looked pleased to be back on the job while filming a wacky scene for her new pilot.
The 50-year-old is shooting the new comedy Keep Calm And Karey On and even got a surprise visit on set from her husband of almost 22 years and her adorable son Ben.

The actress certainly stood out as she filmed a scene for the ABC comedy pilot on Wednesday.
Filming in a Los Angeles, California, cemetery, Kelly - who plays the title role - wore an eye-catching bright pink strapless gown featuring tulle and glittery beading.
The embellished gaudy frock would have easily made a great prom dress or slightly embarrassing bridesmaid dress.

However, the star, along with another actress, was in fact wearing the dress to attend a funeral making it a very unusual choice.
While the dress was not a top fashion choice, Kelly looked amazing for her return to acting and far younger than her fifty years.
Which no doubt co-star Jane Seymour is glad for.

The 62-year-old star of Doctor Quinn Medicine Woman plays Kelly's character Karey's mother in the comedy.
The single-camera comedy is a new take the old story about the black sheep of the family trying to make it on her own.
This story's twist is that instead of being your standard oddball, Karey is in fact the only clean-nosed member of a family of petty thieves, drug addicts and narcissists.

Runaway bridesmaid: Clearly the funeral did not go well as Karey is seen running from the ceremony

The premise for the show is Kelly's character is drawn back into the family after she decides to look after her brother's children when he is sent to prison. She already has an adopted child of her own.
She then battles to do the right thing by herself, the children and far from law abiding family members.
Kelly no doubt can draw inspiration on how it is to try to manage bringing up children in chaos from her own life.

The star is the mother of three children - Jet, who passed away in 2009, 12-year-old Ella and two-year-old Ben.
As the wife of John Travolta, Kelly's life is often a juggling act.
However, on Wednesday Kelly was given some time out from mother duties by her famous husband.
The 59-year-old leading man was content to play second fiddle to his wife's acting for once, doting on their son from the sidelines.

The two-year-old reveled in his father's attention snuggling into his shoulder and getting carried around on set.
Not perturbed by the scary setting of his mother's work for the day, the little boy giggled and played.
At one point John popped the boy down on one of the crew's cars and the tot happily danced around on its bonnet.
Unlike the bright pink dressed Kelly, the Saturday Night Fever star and his adorable son went for more muted outfits for their day on set.

Baby Ben was dressed in navy shorts with a grey and white striped T-shirt while his father wore dark denim jeans, a black T-shirt and a black baseball cap.
John will get to enjoy a lot of father son time in the next few months as he does not have any immediate projects.
While he has two films in pre-production they are not slated to be filmed until later this year.
Now the wait: Once the pilot is filmed ABC will make a decision on whether to make the series into a full season
